To use this calculator, simply enter the number on each of the circular pips on the game board. (Enter a 0 for the desert.) The page will calculate the relative strengths of each potential settlement position on the board. Positions are also color-coded as follows:

| Red | Less than 0.75% | 1-2 |
| Yellow | 0.75% to 1.5% | 3-5 |
| Blue | 1.5% to 2.5% | 6-8 |
| Green | 2.5% or more | 9+ |
In short, green and blue are where you most likely want to place initial settlements, whereas red spaces are where you might want to place them if you're my buddy Chris and you "have a strategy you want to try out".
The table is pre-loaded with the sample beginner's game found in the player's rulebook.
